Journal of Agribusiness and Social Siences

Advancing Knowledge at the Nexus of Agribusiness and Society
The Journal of Agribusiness and Social Sciences (JASS) is an international, peer-reviewed platform dedicated to advancing scholarship at the intersections of agribusiness, agricultural economics, rural development, and the broader social sciences. The journal places particular emphasis on research that explores the economic, institutional, and social dynamics shaping modern agri-food systems and agribusiness development across diverse geographical, institutional, and cultural contexts.
JASS seeks to bridge global perspectives with local realities by promoting research that addresses both the opportunities and challenges associated with agribusiness development and rural transformation. By engaging with experiences from both developed and developing regions, the journal fosters cross-context dialogue that is academically rigorous while remaining relevant to policy and practice. We particularly welcome contributions that extend theoretical understanding and provide practical insights into building resilient, competitive, and inclusive agribusiness systems. Research published in JASS should aim to inform decision-making processes, address structural challenges within agri-food markets, and contribute to the development of agricultural systems that are economically viable, socially inclusive, and environmentally sustainable.
The journal operates with a global scope and adheres to a rigorous double-blind peer-review process, ensuring the highest standards of academic integrity and methodological rigor. JASS encourages multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary contributions that integrate perspectives from agricultural economics, development studies, rural sociology, business and management sciences, environmental policy, institutional economics, and related social science disciplines.
Article Types
JASS publishes several categories of peer-reviewed contributions designed to capture the diverse ways in which research can inform agribusiness development, policy formulation, and socio-economic transformation.
Research Articles:
Full-length original studies that apply rigorous theoretical frameworks, robust empirical methodologies, and high-quality data to address significant questions in agribusiness, agricultural markets, and rural socio-economic development. These articles should make a substantive contribution to academic literature while offering insights relevant to policy, agribusiness practice, and rural development strategies.
Review Articles:
Systematic, narrative, or meta-analytical syntheses of existing international literature that critically assess the current state of knowledge in a defined area. Review papers should identify research gaps, clarify conceptual debates, and outline directions for future scholarship in agribusiness and social science research.
Special Issues:
Thematic collections of articles emerging from collaborative research initiatives, scientific workshops, or academic conferences. These issues focus on emerging or high-priority topics in agribusiness, rural development, and agri-food systems. Potential Guest Editors are encouraged to submit a short proposal (1–3 pages) outlining the theme, scope, and anticipated contributions to the editorial office.
Commentaries:
Concise peer-reviewed contributions that provide critical reflections on contemporary debates, emerging research trends, or policy developments affecting agribusiness and rural economies. This category may include responses to previously published articles, perspectives on urgent challenges facing agri-food systems, and discussions that strengthen the science-policy interface.
By accommodating a diverse range of scholarly formats, JASS provides an inclusive platform for both in-depth empirical research and timely, focused contributions. Through its broad disciplinary scope, the journal serves as a meeting point for researchers, policymakers, industry practitioners, and development professionals committed to strengthening agribusiness systems and improving rural livelihoods.
Ultimately, JASS aims to foster evidence-based dialogue that supports the global exchange of ideas, encourages innovation in agribusiness development, and advances strategies capable of addressing the economic, social, and environmental challenges facing contemporary agri-food systems. The journal is committed to publishing research that not only enriches academic discourse but also contributes meaningfully to the development of sustainable, inclusive, and resilient agribusiness and rural development pathways worldwide.
