Journal of Agricultural Policy & Transformation

Advancing Evidence-Based Policies for Sustainable and Inclusive Agricultural Transformation
Overview and Rationale
Agri-food systems are being reshaped by linked pressures that now affect production, distribution, market access, food affordability, and rural livelihoods at the same time. Climate change is intensifying heat stress, drought, floods, and production risk. Resource constraints, especially water scarcity, land degradation, and rising input costs, are placing further pressure on agricultural systems. At the same time, market volatility, trade disruptions, energy price shocks, and changing consumer demand are altering incentives and exposing weaknesses in existing policy frameworks.
This proposed special issue will bring together research that explains how agri-food systems are responding to these combined pressures and which policy, institutional, and innovation pathways can support resilient, efficient, inclusive, and sustainable transformation. The theme is broad enough to attract contributions from agricultural economics, food policy, environmental policy, rural development, development studies, geography, and related fields, while remaining fully aligned with the policy and transformation focus of AgriPaT.
The special issue is designed to encourage comparative, applied, and policy-relevant work from both developed and developing contexts. It will provide a forum for papers that connect local evidence with wider policy lessons and that examine how climate, resource, and market challenges interact rather than treating them as separate topics.
Aim of the Special Issue
The aim of the special issue is to publish rigorous and policy-relevant scholarship on how agri-food systems are being transformed under climate, resource, and market pressures, and on how public policy, governance, institutions, and innovation can support more resilient and equitable pathways of change.
